If you are dreaming of the fabulous All-Clad cookware used by the chefs of Food Network, but think the product prices are a nightmare, the next best thing is Cuisinart cookware. I have been using this brand for almost 10 years now, and the only reason I had to purchase a replacement set is because pieces were "borrowed" over the years and then there is that incident where I dosed off and left three of them on the stove for six hours on high heat.
It features 18/10 stainless steel and has a sturdy bottom. Even after the incident where I left them on the stove for 1/4 of a day, the pans were still usable and never burned through. I recommend the Chef's Classic series of Cuisinart cookware because it is the only one that is completely dishwasher-safe. This set is an investment. Buy this product if you don't want to purchase anything else for the next 15 years. Yes, it is may seem pricey compared to some brands, but I guarantee you that you won't find another product on the market that gives the quality that Cuisinart offers for that price. Personally, I think that $299.00 for a 17-pc Cuisinart set is a steal, but you are dealing with a woman who's dream cookware is the All-Clad 28-pc stainless steel cookware set which costs around $5,000.00.
The Cuisinart Chef's Classic Cookware Set is friendly enough to be used by the novice cook, but is also tough enough for seasoned and professional cooks. My first set stood strong while I was teaching myself how to cook. If you don't need a 17-pc set, Cuisinart also offers 5, 10 and 14-pc sets, or you can purchase the pieces individually.
Oh, and since it is stainless steel, I also recommend that you use cooking utensils with silicone ends so that your sets are not scratched up.
Where to buy: Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macy's, Crate & Barrel, Chef's Catalog (http://www.chefscatalog.com/product/92109-cuisinart-classic-cookware-set.aspx)
